Samir Puri Joins Tarqeq as Senior Advisor

Author, scholar and former British civil servant is a renowned expert on the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Tarqeq Research is delighted to welcome renowned author, scholar and former British civil servant Dr Samir Puri on board as Senior Advisor.

Dr Puri has 17 years of experience in the academic, think tank and public sectors. His most recent role was Senior Fellow in Urban Security and Hybrid Warfare at the International Institute for Strategic Studies based in Singapore. In 2018-19 he was Assistant Head of Research at the UK Ministry of Defence’s think tank DCDC. In 2017 he was seconded to the Commonwealth Secretariat to author its strategy on countering violent extremism. Earlier in his career, he was a lecturer in War Studies at King’s College London (2015-18); served in the UK Foreign Office (2009-15); and was a Defence Analyst at RAND Europe (2006-09).

Dr Puri has authored four books, most recently Russia’s Road to War in Ukraine (Biteback, 2022), and The Great Imperial Hangover (Atlantic, 2020). Dr Puri holds a PhD from Cambridge University, an MA in War Studies from King’s and a BA in History and Politics from Warwick University.

Founder Abhijnan Rej welcomed Dr Puri’s addition to the firm’s leadership team, adding that his deep experience in hybrid warfare, urban security, and counterterrorism—core areas of focus for Tarqeq—will act as force multipliers for the firm’s research and consulting verticals as they expand over the course of the year.
