Tarqeq is responsible for the personal information described in this notice.
The Website publishes information about Tarqeq, its people, services and research. It does not presently provide visitor accounts, public comments, contact forms, polls, surveys, quizzes, ratings, online purchasing, event registration or newsletter registration.
This notice is intended to describe Tarqeq’s practices consistently for visitors and professional contacts in India and other jurisdictions, including Australia, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and the United States. References to rights under a particular law apply only where that law governs the relevant processing.

- enquiries sent to Tarqeq using contact details published on the Website;
- ordinary professional correspondence;
- preliminary discussions concerning research, commissioned work or collaboration; and
- administrative contact information concerning clients, prospective clients, collaborators, suppliers, publishers and other professional contacts.
This notice does not by itself govern personal information processed as part of a commissioned research project, privileged communication, employment relationship or other engagement subject to separate contractual or legal requirements. Where appropriate, those activities will be governed by an engagement agreement, data-processing agreement, research protocol, confidentiality undertaking or project-specific notice.
Visitors should not transmit classified information, legally privileged material, export-controlled information, sensitive personal information or other confidential material through a general enquiry channel unless Tarqeq has expressly agreed on an appropriate means of transmission.
3. Information we receive
Information you provide
You may choose to contact Tarqeq by email, telephone, LinkedIn or another communication channel linked from the Website. If you do, we may receive:
- your name and contact details;
- your job title and organisational affiliation;
- the contents of your communication;
- information concerning a proposed professional relationship; and
- other information you choose to provide.
Where a professional contact provides information about another person, the contact should have an appropriate basis for doing so.
Information obtained professionally or publicly
Tarqeq may receive ordinary professional contact information through introductions, conferences, publications, professional directories, institutional websites or other lawful public or professional sources.
Where required by applicable law, Tarqeq will provide any additional notice appropriate to information obtained from a source other than the individual.
Website and technical information
Tarqeq uses WordPress.com, operated by Automattic Inc., to host and operate the Website. Automattic may automatically receive technical information that browsers, devices and servers ordinarily make available, including:
- Internet Protocol address;
- browser type;
- device identifiers;
- language preference;
- referring page;
- pages requested;
- date and time of access;
- operating system;
- mobile-network information;
- approximate location derived from an IP address; and
- diagnostic, security and error information.
This information may be processed to deliver and secure the Website, prevent abuse, diagnose technical problems and provide aggregated information about its use.
Website statistics
Tarqeq uses Jetpack Stats, a service provided by Automattic, to understand the general use and performance of the Website.
Depending on the visitor, Jetpack may process information including:
- Internet Protocol address;
- WordPress.com user ID and username, if the visitor is logged in to WordPress.com;
- browser and device information;
- the page visited and referring page;
- date and time of the visit;
- browser language;
- country code;
- page and post views;
- outbound-link clicks;
- search terms and referring sources; and
- page and resource-loading performance.
Tarqeq receives aggregated statistics, such as numbers of views, popular pages, referral sources and visitor countries. Tarqeq does not use these statistics to identify individual visitors or make decisions concerning them.
Automattic states that Jetpack Stats logs containing visitor IP addresses and WordPress.com usernames, where available, are retained for 28 days for the purpose of providing the service.
Further information is available in the Jetpack Privacy Center and Automattic Privacy Notice for Visitors to Users’ Sites.
Anti-spam service
The Website has Automattic’s Akismet anti-spam service enabled. Akismet may process submission and associated technical information if a visitor-submission feature is enabled in the future. The Website does not presently provide public comments or forms through which visitors can make such submissions.
4. Why we process personal information
Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, Tarqeq processes personal information because:
- it is necessary to respond to a request or take steps concerning a possible engagement;
- it is necessary to perform or administer a contract;
- Tarqeq has a legitimate professional, administrative, security or research-related interest that is not overridden by the individual’s rights;
- the individual has given consent;
- processing is necessary to comply with a legal obligation; or
- processing is necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal rights.
Tarqeq may use personal information to:
- operate, maintain and secure the Website;
- provide aggregated Website statistics;
- respond to enquiries and communications;
- assess possible research, commercial or collaborative relationships;
- administer professional relationships and engagements;
- maintain appropriate professional, contractual and administrative records;
- investigate misuse, technical problems or security incidents;
- comply with applicable law, regulation or lawful process;
- establish, exercise or defend legal rights; and
- improve the Website and understand its general use.
Where processing is based on consent, consent may be withdrawn for future processing. Withdrawal does not affect processing already undertaken lawfully.
Tarqeq does not use personal information covered by this notice for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning an individual.
Sending an enquiry does not subscribe the sender to marketing communications.
5. Data minimisation and sensitive information
Tarqeq seeks to collect only information reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose.
We do not intentionally solicit sensitive personal information through the Website. Depending on applicable law, sensitive information may include information concerning health, biometrics, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade-union membership, sexual orientation, precise geolocation, government identifiers, financial accounts, or criminal allegations and convictions.
If a proposed engagement may require such information, Tarqeq will assess the lawful basis, necessity, security measures and any project-specific notice or agreement before processing begins.
6. Service providers and disclosure
Tarqeq uses Automattic Inc. to host and secure the Website and provide aggregated usage statistics through WordPress.com and Jetpack Stats. The Website also has Automattic’s Akismet anti-spam service enabled.
Tarqeq separately uses Google Workspace for professional email and related productivity services. The Website and email system are separate, but each provider may process personal information relevant to the service it supplies.
Automattic and Google may use authorised affiliates and subprocessors to provide their services. Tarqeq limits its use of service providers to purposes reasonably connected with the operation of the Website, professional communications and its work.
Tarqeq may also disclose personal information:
- where required by applicable law or valid legal process;
- to protect the rights, safety or property of Tarqeq or another person;
- to investigate fraud, misuse or a security incident;
- to professional advisers subject to appropriate duties of confidentiality; or
- in connection with a reorganisation or transfer of all or part of Tarqeq’s activities, subject to applicable safeguards.
Tarqeq does not sell personal information. Tarqeq does not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising or use it for targeted advertising based on activity across unrelated websites or services.
The Website contains links to websites and services operated by other organisations. Tarqeq does not control their data-handling practices, and this notice does not apply to them.
7. International processing and transfers
Tarqeq is established in India and ordinarily handles professional correspondence in India.
Automattic, Google and their authorised subprocessors operate internationally. Information may therefore be processed in India, the United States, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and other countries in which these providers or their subprocessors maintain operations.
Because these providers use globally distributed infrastructure and may periodically change their subprocessors, it is not always practicable to identify every processing country individually. Current information about their processing arrangements is available in their published privacy and data-processing documentation.
Where applicable law requires safeguards for an international transfer, Tarqeq will rely on appropriate contractual or other lawful mechanisms made available by the relevant provider. These may include the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or another mechanism recognised by applicable law.
For information originating in Australia, Tarqeq will take reasonable steps, where applicable, to ensure that an overseas recipient handles the information consistently with relevant privacy requirements.
A professional or research engagement involving recurring transfers, sensitive information or access by multiple organisations may be governed by a separate data-processing, confidentiality or data-sharing agreement.
8. Retention
Tarqeq retains personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was received, including:
- responding to an enquiry;
- developing or administering a professional relationship;
- performing an engagement;
- maintaining contractual, tax, accounting or professional records;
- resolving disputes;
- protecting security; and
- complying with legal obligations.
When information is no longer reasonably required, Tarqeq will delete, anonymise or securely archive it, subject to applicable legal and record-keeping requirements.
Technical and security records may be retained for periods determined by operational, security and legal needs. Retention by Automattic and Google is also governed by their respective services, settings and data-processing terms.
9. Security
Tarqeq takes reasonable organisational and technical measures appropriate to the nature of the information under its control. These may include access controls, authentication, software maintenance, secure service providers, backups and procedures for responding to suspected security incidents.
No website, email system or method of electronic storage is completely secure. Visitors and professional contacts should use an agreed secure channel where the sensitivity of the information warrants it.
Where applicable law requires notification of a personal-data breach, Tarqeq will make the required notifications within the applicable period.
10. Individual rights
Depending on the law applicable to the processing, an individual may have the right to:
- ask whether Tarqeq processes personal information concerning them;
- obtain access to that information;
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
- request deletion or erasure;
- request restriction of processing;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- receive certain information in a portable format;
- withdraw consent for future processing;
- opt out of the sale, targeted advertising or qualifying sharing of personal information;
- appeal the refusal of a request where applicable; and
- receive equal service and not be discriminated against for exercising a privacy right.
These rights are not absolute. A request may be limited or refused where permitted by applicable law, including where information must be retained to meet a legal obligation, protect another person’s rights, preserve confidentiality or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Tarqeq may take reasonable steps to verify identity and authority before responding. An authorised agent may make a request where applicable law permits it and appropriate authority can be verified.
Tarqeq will respond within the period required by the law applicable to the request. Where no prescribed period applies, Tarqeq will seek to respond within 30 days.
11. Additional information for Australia
Where the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles apply, individuals may:
- deal with Tarqeq anonymously or under a pseudonym where lawful and practicable;
- request access to or correction of their personal information; and
- complain about Tarqeq’s handling of their information.
A privacy complaint should identify the relevant circumstances and requested resolution. Tarqeq will acknowledge the complaint, investigate it fairly and provide a response within a reasonable period.
If the Australian Privacy Act applies and the complainant is dissatisfied with Tarqeq’s response, they may be entitled to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
12. Additional information for the European Economic Area and United Kingdom
This section applies only where the EU General Data Protection Regulation, an applicable EEA implementation or the UK GDPR governs the relevant processing.
Tarqeq will ordinarily rely on one or more of the following legal bases:
- steps requested before entering into a contract;
- performance of a contract;
- compliance with a legal obligation;
- Tarqeq’s legitimate interests in operating a secure Website, corresponding professionally, conducting and administering its work, and protecting its legal rights; or
- consent, where consent is appropriate.
Individuals may have the rights described in section 10, including rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability. They may also lodge a complaint with the competent data-protection supervisory authority in the country in which they reside or work, or where they consider an infringement to have occurred.
Tarqeq does not presently undertake automated decision-making covered by Article 22 of the GDPR in relation to information governed by this notice.
If Tarqeq’s future activities require the appointment of an EU or UK representative, the representative’s identity and contact information will be added to this notice.
13. Additional information for the United States
Privacy law in the United States varies by state. Where an applicable state privacy law grants rights to an individual, Tarqeq will honour those rights to the extent required.
Tarqeq does not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioural advertising or process it for targeted advertising. Tarqeq therefore does not presently provide a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” mechanism.
If Tarqeq’s practices change, or if an applicable law requires an additional notice at collection, opt-out mechanism or appeal procedure, this notice and the Website will be updated accordingly.
14. Children
The Website is intended for a general professional and research audience and is not directed at children.
Tarqeq does not knowingly solicit personal information from children through the Website. If we learn that information was submitted by a child in circumstances requiring parental authorisation or deletion, we will take appropriate steps.
