We believe generative artificial intelligence, reasoning models and AI agents have enormous potential to further and accelerate human understanding, act as a formidable force multiplier for human creativity, and reduce routine burdens of knowledge work. At the same, we also hold that transparency is non-negotiable, assignment of due credit a must, and that intellectual and commercial exchanges thrive under conditions of trust.
In order to balance the gains from AI adoption and our duty as a responsible research practice, we have adopted the following policy around division of labour.
| Product | Human role | AI role |
| Externally-published commentary and essays | Conceptualisation, argument development, text, and final review | None. AI-generated outputs — documented elsewhere — may serve as objects of analysis (Tarqeq website summaries of published articles may be AI generated) |
| Models | Conceptualisation, text, core mathematical analysis, algorithms, literature review, final review | Refinement and expansion of mathematical treatment, coding and further literature review |
| Experiments | Conceptualisation, prompts and corrections, source provision (if needed), final review | Text, analysis, mathematical treatment, literature review |
| Reports, research articles, working papers, white papers | Conceptualisation, text, primary desk and field research, core mathematical analysis, algorithms, literature review, final review | Coding and further literature review, refinement and expansion of mathematical treatment, adversarial “peer” review, assistance with LaTeX formatting |
| Client reports, notes and other privileged communication | Various, depending on engagement | Only with explicit client authorisation and controls |
| Marketing material, promotional summaries, illustrative images | Conceptualisation and final review | Generation/drafting and refinement |
| Website | Design, maintenance, security | For experiments, the relevant page may also be designed by AI if helpful in illustrating methods |
